Migration ?

Hmmm. Well, this is yet another blog. Much like diaries, I seem to accumulate bits of blog here, there and everywhere. A very old one is at livejournal, the current one at myspace and now this. It's a bit like Brian Eno's not keeping diaries very long and thus knowing lots about the early Januaries of his life.

And I only created this so I could post comments on a couple of blogs, too !

I have no idea if this will ever be updated; whether this will take over from the MySpace one, in much the same way that the MySpace one supplanted the LiveJournal one; or even if I'll keep the two of them going in completely parallel tracks. I suppose I could try using one as devil's advocate to the other, but I suspect I'll have enough trouble having enough of a life to keep just one of them going ;)

Anyway, the old journal is here ... http://tonyisyourpal.livejournal.com and the current one is here ... http://www.myspace.com/tonyisyourpal

so have I got to go sign up for myspace to be able to comment, or can I completely confuse people by commenting on the myspace blog here ? (where I already have an account) ?

Well, you could sign up for MySpace I suppose - it might assist with the subject of your current blog, although whether you would actually *welcome* any of the assistance no doubt offered by the lurking hordes on MySpace is an entirely different issue ... ;)

But you're most welcome to post here if you'd rather. I take it I've finally said something over there to pique your interest ? ;)

I'm being a bit loopy at the minute but I'm bouncing around to Little Richard and in no real mood to be sensible ...!

Awopbopaloobop Alopbamboom !!!

(oooh, Frankie Ford's Sea Cruise - isn't iTunes wonderful ????)

Aha - just updated and found this:

"The major change that really affected my future was having my contract terminated early because I was pregnant."

Isn't that sort of thing discriminatory and illegal ?

I've always been one of those people who lack interest in "politics" - but increasingly find that there are things that I feel strongly about. Turning into a grumpy old woman I guess. So I'm probably on dodgy ground commenting on this... but I'm gonna anyway :)

It is interesting how we take the UK interpretation of some of the European legislation as gospel.

Sweden is very strong on equality, but when I worked there I was amazed and shocked (when I was interviewing people for jobs we had) to find that it is perfectly legitmate to ask a woman at interview what her plans are for children and so on. And you don't have to do the whole strange thing of asking all candidates the same questions - you can just ask the women.

They have made a decision on the balance between the needs of their economy/business, and the needs of the individual (and their real need for population growth) - and come down at a particular point. A different point to us.

But we in the UK have settled at that point for whatever reason. If this lady's contract was genuinely terminated early for a reason not included in the ts and cs of the contract, she would have a case against them. I guess we will never know whether there was another reason for terminating the contract early, or whether she persued a case against them, or chose not to.

If she did, I believe she would only have got what was left to run on her contract. Which would still leave her in a difficult situation in terms of finding a new contract.

At some stage my generation seems to have got sold the myth that we can have it all. We can't. Life is, and always has been, about making choices. It is only the choices that vary with time and place.

(here endeth the lesson for today ;-) )
